摘要

The late Mr. Seiji Nagai's molluscan collection is now preserved in the Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Natural History (WMNH), and it contains large number of unstudied and unidentified specimens, especially in the families Epitoniide and Turridae (s.L) (Nakayama, 2010). The author formerly described a new epitoniid, Opalia levis, based on specimens in the collection (Nakayama, 2010). Further investigation of the collection resulted in the finding of another undetermined Opalia species, which was collected from off the Kii Peninsula, Japan, and is similar to O. levis. Although only two specimens were found in the Nagai collection, another specimen from the same region was subsequently found in Mr. Yasuo Koyama's collection, which was also donated tothe WMNH. Detailed comparison of the three specimens with Opalia levis revealed that they represent a distinct species, and it is described herein as new to science.
