Modernisation of the flue gas desulphurisation plants of units 5 and 6 at the Belchatow power plant, Poland

Belchatow power plant is the largest lignite-fired power plant both in Poland and in Europe. The overall capacity of the units operated at the Belchatow site amounts to 5,452 MW: 1. Units 1 and 2 = 360 MW_(el) each, 2. Units 3 to 5 = 380 MW_(el), each 3. Unit 6 = 394 MW_(el), 4. Unit 7 to 12 = 390 MW_(el), each and 5. Unit 14= 858 MW_(el). The plant capacity roughly equals to about 19% of the entire Polish installed capacity. The annual average energy production is about 33 to 34 TWh, representing approximately 20% of electricity production in Poland.
