High Frequency Deviations within the European Power System - Origins and Proposals for Improvement

With the deregulation of the electrical energy market, large unintended frequency deviations occur (within the European power system) in the course of every day, mainly at the change of the hour (Figure 1). Among other aspects, the appearance of large frequency rises in the mornings and large frequency drops in the evenings is remarkable. The observed magnitudes of the frequency deviations regularly reach △f_(max) =140 mHz and above, lasting from 10-15 min up to more than 30 min in several cases.
