This paper introduces hydrodynamic torque converters with integrated turning gear for starting gas turbines. It describes in particular the integrated design and the new developments of hydrodynamic torque converter. With this paper the authors like to inform about the current hydrodynamic solution with its availability of more than 99.9 %, and like to show new developments. The paper describes the characteristics of a hydrodynamic torque converter with integrated turning device when using it as drive for gas turbine start. This paper also deals with the development of an improved profile and a new modular torque converter design to meet higher standards of modern gas turbines, also showing applications.
