Supply reliability as an economic factor in the production of electricity

In the deregulated electricity market the cost of electricity generation is compared continuously with the market rate of electrical power. An adjustment of the operational costs to the market rate maybe done via the main cost factors in the generation within the sections operation and maintenance. When it is not possible to adjust the generation costs to the expectations for market rate level, this leads to part load operation of the less efficient plants. A demand-based reliability of the plants and their components is more in the limelight. The value of supply reliability enables together with the value of availability to assess the generation with regard to its market ability and to balance the unplanned outages under financial aspects.
