Operating experience with sewage sludge co-combustion in the coal-fired power plant in Heilbronn

Since 1996, Energie Baden-Wurttemberg AG (EnBW) have been dealing with problems of co-combustion of sludges from communal sewage plants. Since the approval for continual operation was granted in 1998, thermally and mechanically dried sewage sludge has been co-combusted. The operating experience described in this paper covers problems from dust development to clogging upon sludge transport and quality differences in the sewage sludge, and included working and health protection aspects.
