New boiler construction at Lunen Power Station within an extremely short time-scale

As a result of a fault on 25 October 1994, the boiler plant of the 150 MW unit at Lunen Power Station had to be completely demolished and subsequently constructed anew. In this process, the two-pass boiler with slag-tap pulverised coal firingaffected by the incident was replaced by a tower-type boiler with dry-bottom firing. From the date of order to guaranteed steam supply, less than only 19 months elapsed. An adequate pre-planning period and recourse to standardised pre-designed moduleswere decisive for such a short completion period.
