The orientation on core processes and the general cost pressure in the past years have resulted in the fact that a variety of supporting services have been outsourced. A big part of these services are maintenance services. These services differ according to the required qualification of the staff and the importance for the company. With the development and the use of modern maintenance strategies, the meaning of the condition monitoring as a service in general requires a higher qualification than maintenance and repair. The facts discussed in the paper are based on the example of the condition monitoring for the service plants of the VEAG Boxberg power plant and are to provide an overview on the efficiency of outsourced services and their meaning for maintenance.
