Schkopau power station-design, construction and initial operating experience

Commercial operation of the brown coal-fired power station at Schkopau commenced on programme on April 1, 1996, on Unit A and on October 1, 1996, on Unit B. Following the design, construction and commissioning phase extending over five years,Schkopau became the first plant with supercritical steam conditions and an efficiency of about 40% in the new states. The operating results show that the emission levels are significantly below the permitted values and availability is developingsatisfactorily at a constantly increasing rate. This paper presents the plant concept, experience from the construction phase and initial results from commissioning and operation.
