There's nothing to bring a community together (literally) like a town common. The open green space is perfect for gatherings, concerts, get-togethers or just general relaxing, especially if the space is inviting. m Worcester, Mass., the downtown areahas suffered its share of setbacks and challenges--the Worcester Common outlet mall, for example, once viewed as the perfect way to bring people downtown, is about to be demolished. The Common itself, which sits immediately beside City Hall was also lacking as an attraction for residents and visitors. The space needed to be freshened up with a new, more inviting design.
