HOLDING the 2007 New Zealand Open golf tournament at a privately owned venue in the southern central Otago region of the South Island was a challenging task. The November tournament was a highlight for that part of the world on the privately owned Michael Hill Golf Course, which brought the New Zealand Open to the South Island for the first time in 22 years. It was the first time since 2002 that it had been held outside Auckland. The course, owned by millionaire jeweller Michael Hill will host the tournament for three years.
