The fight for funding: industry lobbies for far-reaching research project

In an effort that enjoys widespread support across the industry, the National Turfgrass Federation has begun lobbying Congress for 32.4 million dollar in new USDA funding for research into turf management systems that require fewer ag chemicals, water and other inputs, and greater reliance on integrated pest management programs. Dubbed "The National Turfgrass Research initiative," the funding would be used by the USDA's Agricultural Research Service and its national network of multi-disciplinary laboratories to conduct longterm research into this evolving vision of turf management.
