French Lick Resort in French Lick Springs, Ind., is a remarkable place in many ways. Travelers were first drawn to the region in the 1850s, seeking the curative properties of the mineral waters bubbling from the ground. Hotels were built to accommodate them, and although fires ravaged the buildings in the late 19th century, the owners always rebuilt to keep the crowds coming. By 1902, the two magnificent hotels that have recently been renovated were established, and the French Lick Springs Hotel andthe West Baden Springs Hotel remain two of the most astounding lodging establishments anywhere.
