The effect of plant training system on yielding and storability of cucumber fruits

In the greenhouse experiment the effect of four plant training systems on yielding and storability of Polish short fruited cucumber cv. Aramis F_1 was tested. The fruit color, their weight loss and marketable value after three weeks storage at 12.5deg C in stretch film were evaluated. It was found that plant training system had significant effect on early yield of cucumbers. The highest early yield of cucumbers was found for plant training system consisting of main stem topped on wire. At the sametime this training system gave the lowest average marketable and total yield of cucumbers in both years of cultivation. No differences in greenness of fresh fruits after harvest from different training systems were found. The market value of fruit afterstorage for 21 days was generally higher for cucumbers from beginning of harvest season in comparison to intensive harvest period or last phase of fructifying. There were no distinct differences after storage in weight losses of cucumbers harvested fromdifferent plant training systems.
