A survey of insects and population fluctuations of pests occurring on cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) in Rio Branco (AC).

The insects occurring in a cowpea crop in Acre, Brazil, were collected weekly from May 1984 to August 1986 using light-traps and sweep-netting. A total of 18 165 insects was collected and classified into 68 genera or species. The most important species were Maruca testulalis [M. vitrata], Neocurtilla hexadactyla, Piezodorus guildinii, Cerotoma tingomarianus [C. arcuata tingomariana] and Crinocerus sanctus. Six predators and one potential pest were also recorded.
