A Little Ingenuity Lasts a Decade

Maintenance of a steel rig requires the use of cutting and welding from time to time and it could be anywhere on the rig. When the drilling rig Sedco 704 ordered a number of oxygen and acetylene regulators, together with the RF-53N flashback arrestors, from their Scottish onshore supply base, they chose Witt Gas Techniques. The company were able to put the regulators and flash back arrestors in special weather roofed and ventilated boxes designed to meet Sedco's specifications. Ten of these boxes are located at strategic points around the rig, connected to their gas cylinders using fixed colour coded solid oxygen and acetylene piping. The oxygen and acetylene cylinders are stored in one location, in safety racks with a solid steel partition between the two.
