Analysis of foreign data and research into the properties of native brass powder, produced under semi-industrial conditions, established their advantages over homogenization. Use of industrial batches of pulverized brass powder (particularly grade PL-80) in powder metallurgy leads to a reduction in the strength characteristics and density, a deterioration in surface quality, as well as to difficulties when producing parts with complex shapes. To determine the causes for unstable quality in cermet articles, studies were made into selected batches of PL-80 powders produced during 1984-1987 by the Bakinsk Experimental Powder Metallurgy Plant (BOZPM) and the Alaverdi Mining-Metallurgical Combine (AGMK): first their technical conditions (TU 48-42-1 _84) and then additional properties:particle morphology, phase composition, lattice parameter, elemental composition, microhardness, specific surface.
