Bioexclusion plans for expanding dairy herds

In April 2015, the current milk quota regime will expire and dairy farmers will be free to increase their milk production. Some of this increase will be fuelled by internal herd expansion through retaining more replacement heifers and some will be external by buying in stock. Herd expansion by buying in, will present serious challenges to both dairy farmers and their veterinary practitioners, to prevent infectious diseases coming in with purchased cattle. This article briefly addresses how to adviseon the bioexclusion aspects of herd expansion in your clients' herds.
