The Safety of Women on College Campuses: Implications of Evolving Paradigms in Postsecondary Education

Institutions of higher learning in the United States today facemajor challenges, as they adapt to a global society, increasingdiversity and a substantial shift in the demographics of students,an exponential growth of new knowledge, and an infusionof technologies never envisioned by academics of priordecades. While adapting to this newer educational landscape,universities concurrently struggle with a global recession andattendant decreases in state and federal funding support, risingtuition, increasing expectations of stakeholders, and calls forincreased accountability and affordability (Miller, 2006).
