Angiostrongylus vasorum is a canine parasite that few veterinarians in the United States have seen or even heard about. It is referred to by many as the "French heartworm" because adult worms reside in the heart and pulmonary arteries of dogs and because initial reports and the majority of early studies emerged from the southwestern region of France.
