Mother Deer

I'm not quite sure how animals keep the time of day. It must be by the amount of sunlight remaining in the sky or something of that nature. Regardless, the same band of whitetail deer came every day at the same time all winter long to a small grove ofmixed hardwoods behind my parent's home in northern Minnesota. The reason, of course, was the delicious meals of leftover bread, apples, corn, and deer food that my mother placed there every day for the duration of those famously frigid Minnesota winters that seemed to last forever. From a large picture window in the family room, everyone enjoyed watching the deer and other assorted woodland creatures feast on the generous portions of the much-needed nutrition.
