Perspectives on Safety

Safety has always been a complex issue. It involves materials, mechanics, and that most quixotic of factors, the human element. Now, there is also the concern of sabotage. A system, they say, "can burst at any seam," and proactively assuring that such bursts do not occur is full-time work. Here we look at the varied aspects of safety and security in the many worlds in which valves and actuators find themselves.
