Effect of maturity on the mineral content of Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum).

The effect of maturity on the mineral content of the napier grass varieties, Bana and French, was assessed during the wet and dry seasons. Mineral content declined significantly with maturity except for Co. The effect of variety was significant forCa, P, K, Fe and Mn. Season significantly influenced levels of Mg, Cu, Mn and Zn. Mineral contents of both varieties were similar and the levels were negatively associated with maturity. Levels of micro-minerals were below those desired for animal production.
