Two of the largest industries purchasing valves are coal fired power generation and gas production. Due to the Chinese decision to manufacture large quantities of gas from coal, the forecasts for both markets have to be viewed together. The first gas to coal plant built in the 1970s in South Africa was the largest valve user in the world. The plant utilized more than 180,000 valves, many of them large and expensive. The plants now underway in China are on an even larger scale.
