Some Red River Valley fresh packing sheds were still scrambling to find room in late October to store the remainder of this year's big fresh crop. The Red River Valley fresh crop will approach 5 million hundredweight, a number that hasn't been challenged since 2008. Growers to the north experienced near perfect harvest conditions, having most of their crop buttoned up by mid October, but growers farther south in Grand Forks and Trail counties were delayed several weeks, waiting for rain to loosen the soil. That "rain finally came mid to late October, allowing the harvest to wrap up by the first week in November.
