As a vehicle information organisation, HPI has been working with and supporting trading standards officers (TSOs) across the country for years. The objectives of both trading standards and HPI are aligned in a desire to protect used car buyers from unscrupulous criminals.The Guidance for Car Dealers, published by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) in late 2010, clearly identifies provenance and mileage checking as a key part of a dealer's due diligence.
