The name of the game

WE CALL our opinion column Tunnel Vision for a reason. In some connotations this might suggest rather a blinkered, or perhaps, focused viewpoint on some particular aspect of life. Yet in our view, when this is actually related to the tunnelling sector itself, Tunnel Vision indicates a general outlook on the industry aimed at promoting the use of tunnels to meet what might otherwise be insoluble, or perhaps difficult to handle by other means, aspects of infrastructure development for the benefit of all. If God had meant us to work underground perhaps (s)he'd-this is an equal-opportunities magazine-have given us digging claws, like a mole. But better than that, we have been given the wherewithal to invent the tools of the trade ourselves.
