Analysing the interface propagation in the course of the 2D first-order phase transition accompanied by adsorption and desorption, Mikhailov and Ertl (Chem. Phys. Lett. 238 (1995) 104) have assumed that the adsorbate coverages near the interface correspond to spinodal points. This choice of coverage seems to be physically incorrect because it does not guarantee a local equilibrium near the interface and results in the condition of the coexistence of two phases, which depends on the details of the kinetics.
