UK truck market recovers 32% in 2011 - small incremental increase expected this year, says DAF Trucks

UK - The total UK truck market (over six tonnes gross) in 2011 was forecast to be 32 per cent up over the previous year at more than 36,000 compared with 27,500; an increase in volume terms of 8,500 units, according to Ray Ashworth, managing director, DAF Trucks UK Ltd of Thame at the traditional pre-Christmas press conference in London last month. Much of the growth in 2011 could be attributed to tractor sales, said Ashworth, stating that 70 per cent of the increase was due to tractor demand; adding that the tractor sector itself had increased 63 per cent on a rolling year basis to the end of November. He said the smaller rigid segment was showing signs of growth too.
