Investment/Expansion: Cummins opens three new engine and engineering plants in India

Cummins Inc's Indian operations has opened three new engine manufacturing and engineering plants as part of a major investment project on a 300 acre site in Phaltan, near Pune, India. The three new plants, which represent an investment of INR5bn (USD 110m) are the first of several new facilities at the site in Phaltan, reports Cummins. The first is an engine manufacturing plant and second facility of Tata Cummins Ltd -Cummins Inc's joint venture with Tata Motors Ltd - for producing engines for commercial vehicles, power generation and industrial markets. The second operation is an engine re-building centre for re-construction of high horsepower engines to be operated by Cummins India Ltd; and the third, is an engine reconditioning facility for remanufacturing engines and components to be operated by Cummins Technologies India Ltd.
