摘要

Same ceramic materials have proved to be particularly suitable for application in mechanical seals as sliding and construction materials. Depending on the application and operation conditions in mechanical seals, synthetic carbon, metals, carbides, metal oxides and polymers are used. Figure 1 shows a possible classification of sliding materials. When selecting a suitable type of sliding material the characteristic tribological data of the material as well as its structure have to be taken into consideration. Experiments and the experience in practice have shown, that a bimodal structure has a better tribological behavior at high pressure than a structure with small grains. Here the physical properties of the lubricants play an essential role.
