Cable car may miss Olympic start

East London's latest addition to its transport infrastructure - a cable car linking two key Olympic venues - is not guaranteed to be ready in time for the London 2012 opening ceremony on 27 July. Transport chiefs had hoped that the cable car across the River Thames would be up and running in time for the Games. The Mayor's office had announced in April 2011 that Transport for London "is striving to deliver the scheme before the London Olympic and Paralympic Games". But those associated with the project have not set a date as to when the cable car will open; insisting that the scheme will be ready some time "this summer" and was never promised for the Olympics. Construction is claimed to be progressing according to schedule.
