Bypass takes shape on solid foundations

Availability of good local materials is benefitting a new bypass which - when it opens later this year -should ease traffic flows around the M40's Junction 15. Anew embankment of red soil up to 9m high can now be seen clearly from roads west of Warwick. The earthworks, with two major and numerous smaller structures also taking shape, will soon form the 'M40 Junction 15 (Longbridge) Bypass', allowing A46 through traffic to bypass the junction. This is a very significant " project for traffic flows in the area and a scheme close to a good source of fill material. Just to the west of the route of the new bypass Morrison Construction has been able to 'borrow' around 500,000m{sup}3 of Weathered Keuper Marl good for road building. This has proven a great boost for the Highways Agency's Longbridge Bypass scheme, which was expected to be supplied with fill from the Toll Bar Roundabout improvement further north along the A46.
