Nottingham city tram extension enters final stages

Extension of Nottingham's tram network is nearing completion with contractor Taylor Woodrow Alstom having substantially finished all major construction and overhead power lines. However progress is behind schedule based on original estimates that the extension would be operation by the end of 2014. City Council sources say the launch will instead take place during the "first part of 2015" but recent media speculation has suggested that passenger services may not hit the streets until the middle of the year. Taylor Woodrow Alstom project director Paul Harris said: "A precise launch date for the expansion cannot be confirmed at present. Construction work is rapidly coming to an end across the entire project and we are now entering an intensive phase of testing and commissioning.
