摘要

Today mechanical seals are used in almost every sector of industrial pumping applications. They have practically replaced soft packings, mainly because of their very low leak rates and considerably lower friction. Yet the increasing demands for stricter environmental standards on permissible emissions of sealant fluids, higher attainable operating limits, better overall reliability and particularly seal life, continuously call for better understanding of and improvements in mechanical seal performance.
