Yield Gap in System of Rice Intensification (SRI) at Thamirabarani Command Area of Tamil Nadu

SRI is a whole package of agronomic approaches that can increase farmers' rice yields, while using less water and lowering production costs. But the potential yield can be obtained only if the farmers adopt all the technological components Of SRI. Hence, the present study was undertaken to assess the yield gap in SRI at Thamirabarani command area of Tamil Nadu Thamirabarani command area spreads over eight blocks and in each block the village which was having the maximum area under SRI was selected for the study purpose. A sample size of 250 farmers practicing SRI was identified as respondents from the selected eight villages by applying proportionate random sampling method. In this study, both Yield Gap I (Difference between experiment station yieldand potential farm yield.) and the Yield gap II (Difference between potential farm yield and actual farm yield) were worked out. The study reveals that more than two thirds of the respondents (69.60 per cent) had an yield gap of 15.00 to 25.00 per cent.
