Knowledge and Performance of Dysphagia Risk Screening Among Registered Dietitians in Clinical Practice

An Internet-based survey was conducted to identify knowledge and performance of dysphagia risk screening among registered dietitian nutritionists in clinical practice. From a randomized sample of 3669 US registered dietitian nutritionists, 8.4% completed the sur ey and met inclusion criteria. Those who performed or used information about select dysph; gia risk screening components in clinical practice had significantly higher mean knowledge scoi ~s than those who did not perform/use the components. Respondents with prior training/education performed/used information for more screening components than those without (P = .030); they used information about the components from other sources in their nutrition assessments more often than they performed the components themselves.
