摘要

This special issue contains 6 papers which provide information on the processes occurring in different components of the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum. Topics covered include: stomatal control and hydraulic resistance, with special reference to tall trees; time series diagnosis of tree hydraulic characteristics; functional convergence in hydraulic architecture and water relations of tropical savanna trees from leaf to whole plant; dynamics of transpiration, sap flow and use of stored water in tropical forest canopy trees; the effects of phloem girdling on xylem hydraulic conductance; and the converging patterns of uptake and hydraulic redistribution of soil water in contrasting woody vegetation types.
