There are five submitted papers in this issue. The first addresses the use of FISH in GVHD. Prat et al. extend the theme issue of hematopoetic stem cells by addressing perspectives in umbilical cord blood banks. Dr. Funato and co-workers report on an ana-phylactoid transfusion reaction associated with a filter designed for white cell removal. Dr. Stegmayr has a very interesting paper in which he describes the use of apheresis in patients with severe sepsis and multi organ dysfunction. This is an application which is extremely intriguing but, certainly, in North America, not very often seen. The last of the submitted papers is by Dr. Muro who describes a patient with TRALI, a phenomenon which is receiving ever increasing, and well deserved attention.
