Degussa AG of Dusseldorf, Germany has invested in a startup company, Solvent Innovation, that is working to develop new commercial applications for ionic liquids. The liquids, which could replace voltaile solvents in some chemical, pharmaceutical and energy applications, have melting points below ambient temperatures.
