摘要

In the fields of transfusion medicine and blood banking, the special red cell phenotype GP.Mur (also known as Mil-tenberger type III, Mi.III) is gradually recognized to be one of the most important blood types in Taiwan and many other Southeast Asian countries [1]. In early days, GP.Mur was serologically defined and classified with 10 other gly-cophorin variants in the Miltenberger series of the MNS blood group system [2,3]. It is now clear that these 11 gly-cophorin variants in the Miltenberger series (initially termed Mi.I to Mi.XI) were evolved from gene recombination events between homologous glycophorin A and gly-cophorin B, and are thus associated with one another in terms of their protein structures and serological activities.
