Leading the industry in training

In April of 1997, the International Tire and Rubber Association (ITRA) held the first Certified Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Instructor class immediately following the old retread show in Louisville, Kentucky. Shifting from retreading to commercial tire service was a bold move for the Association, but the ITRA Board of Directors recognized that consolidation and technology were changing the retread business, so survival was dependent on a shift in focus. I was the Government Affairs Director for ITRA at the time and I admired the courage that it took for the leadership to make that change.
