When building lattice towers for a 500-kV transmission project, linemen for Wilson Construction relied on drills with extension cords measuring a few hundred feet. Each time they had to punch drill a hole to install a fiber bracket, they plugged the drill into an on-site generator and then scaled the tower with the corded tool. As such, the linemen faced tripping hazards as well as electric shock hazards if they encountered rainy or muddy conditions. To improve both the safety and the productivity of the field crews, the Canby, Oregon-based contractor recently field tested a new cordless M18 Fuel 1.5 Lineman Magnetic Drill from Milwaukee Tool.
