My little 3.7m tinnie Stacer Riverra was languishing on the pontoon at our rented holiday home at Mooloolaba, and frankly, it was starting to look pretty run down. About the same time we found that Stacer was celebrating its 40th anniversary so it seemed fitting that we should give the little boat a much-needed make-over. By "we" I mean my 41/a year-old grandson, Xandie, and myself. I was unable to establish when the boat was originally built since Telwater, which acquired the Stacer brand 11 years ago, didn't have records going back that far. Also, we couldn't identify the build date off the original serial number. However, based on the trailer serial number, I figured the boat was probably built in Melbourne in or around 1983. So yes, the little tinnie was getting on a bit in years! The little rig, powered with a 15hp Yamaha, and aptly named Li'l Bug-Her has been used over the years to fish the waters of the lovely Mooloolah River and estuary around the Mooloolaba Marina. In that time it had gathered some marine growth. The canopy had past its use-by date too so it was either a case of write the boat off totally, or give her a much-needed renovation.
