The first time that I visited the Tiwi Islands over three years ago I described the experience as the fishing trip of a lifetime. I had stayed at Clearwater Island Lodge (formerly Munupi Wilderness Lodge), which overlooks the Apsley Strait on' the northwestern shoreline of Melville Island. It is a unique fishing lodge with a diverse range of coastai habitats that are all within easy reach. Situated at Pirlangimpi (Garden Point) the lodge, which for the last ten years has been run by Michael and KerriBenton, offers superb fishing. The mud flats of Apsley Strait are popular because they offer something completely different; sight fishing for barramundi and threadfin salmon at low tide was the best fun I have ever had fishing for barra.
