Taking small inflatable boats around Australia for adventure and charity seems to be a fashion trend at present judging by two expeditions currently underway. Hot on the heels of the story we had last issue (TBF July/August 2011) about Tasmanian Robert Pennicott attempting to go solo around Australia in a 5.4m inflatable we got another story of a Western Australian pair of boaties doing a similar thing with a customised 8.6m rigid inflatable bottom (RIB). This second expedition also leaves from Sydney and will use a Honda-outboard powered 8.6 Gemini Pro rigid inflatable boat (RIB). The crew are two brothers who will call the boat home for 10 weeks as they go 'over the top' to raise funds and awareness of prostate cancer is ready for action. After extensive sea trialling off the West Australian coast, the custom 8.6m Gemini Pro RIB has been refined to a point where both men are confident they will succeed in their Australian-first attempt to travel more than 9500km around Australia's coastline in a'rubber ducky'.
