I can not agree with your view on the book "Silent Spring" [see July's editorial, "A Milestone Book Turns 50," www.ChemicalProcessing.com/ articles/2012/milestone-book-turns-50.html]. While that book resulted in some positive changes in environmental protection policies, the immediate assertions by the author about the huge harm caused by DDT were proven wrong later. Several years ago UN-led organizations quietly acknowledged their mistake and allowed limited usage of DDT. However, for 40 years many countries could not use this mighty weapon to fight malaria mosquitoes.
