The molecular extinction coefficient e of cylindrospermopsin (CYN) purified by the anion exchange and the normal-phase HPLC procedures was determined to be 9800 at 262nm. This e is significantly higher than those (epsilon, 5800-6250) reported previously. In order to determine CYN concentrations in solutions using UV absorption, the e-value of CYN should be corrected from 5800 to 9800. Further, the [alpha](D) value of CYN should be corrected from + 12.5 degrees to + 17.0 degrees. (C) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
