Global colour management for quality control in printing

The objective of all print producers and print management companies is to have in place a colour management policy that is "fit for purpose and provides a basis for improved quality and expansion at a global level".1 For such reasons, good colour management is of great relevance. However, there are considerable on-going problems that need to be addressed. In a typical situation, these include the need to ensure that the digital artwork and proofs that are produced by clients' agencies and by designers meet the required standards. The main issue is how to monitor all of the suppliers to ensure that the standards are maintained across all sectors of the print production programme, with respect not only to the artwork and digital proofing, but also to the pre-press factors and printing components.
