Epoxy resin systems were first introduced into the surface coatings market in the late 1940s and have played a significant part in this market for many years. While some may regard these resins as being at a mature market stage in the product life-cycle, consistent developments have occurred especially in waterborne epoxy resin systems. Heat cured systems based on waterborne epoxy resin systems in cathodic electrodeposition primers in automotive coatings as well as waterborne epoxy/ acrylic resin systems in container linings continue to ensure their presence in these markets.
